’06 Morgan Freeman
Price range: $18.00 through $58.88
Classic roasted‑date sweetness with an inviting, rounded aroma and excellent density. Clean Menghai‑style richness with smooth, steady depth
Boyou’s 0508 ripe Puerh feels like the Morgan Freeman of ripes. Aroma, sweetness, and density hit the “just right” mark. The fragrance speaks warm, sweet, and round, echoing Freeman’s voice. Sweetness flows through a roasted date profile, balanced by classic Menghai bitterness.
Luxurious density reflects high‑quality raw material and masterful fermentation. Huang Anshi, former head of Menghai Tea Factory’s fermentation department, joined Boyou to oversee fermentation of Boyou ripes. This cake uses grade 8 leaves, harvested in early spring ’05 from 1600m elevations in Menghai, pressed into a 357g bing in ’06.
The tea yields three strong infusions. Stacking infusions will easily yield a fourth. Brew 10g of tea in 150ml of water for 90 seconds to unlock its full character. Originally dry‑stored in Guangdong under ideal conditions, the cake has rested in Los Angeles since December 2023. Storage remains clean—no dank, no must.
