’02 Newspaper Reverie
Price range: $49.00 through $118.00
Classic old‑newspaper bitterness, gentle camphor lift, and a soft baker’s‑chocolate finish.
Creamy taste, texture, and nose gives way to unmistakable old‑newspaper bitterness — the classic Bulang chenwei (old taste) that only well‑handled Guangdong humidity can produce. Camphor insinuates itself through the top notes, subtly hinting at its early Guangdong conditioning. The qi lands with authority: warming, expansive, and skin‑tingling. The deep red liquor’s finish lingers with old‑taste newspaper and a touch of baker’s chocolate. The tannins have asserted themselves more over time, reaching into the throat.
Comprised of about a quarter twig material providing the basis for added creaminess and chenwei. Originally Guangdong humid‑stored, now fully settled in Los Angeles since March ’21, this ripe treasure shows the best of both worlds: softened edges, deepened aromatics, and a clean, confident old‑taste profile without muddiness.
