’07 Schoolyard Bully
Price range: $12.00 through $30.00
Old-school taste, incense nose, old chrysanthemum.
Schoolyard Bully anounces itself from the first sip with upfront sugary sweetness hits immediately, followed by a faint chrysanthemum note on the backend. The mouthfeel turns silky as it reaches the throat, evoking the softness of a well‑made ripe Pu‑erh despite being raw. Tight compression keeps the pacing steady, releasing layers gradually. As the session deepens, the old chrysanthemum florality comes fully forward, and the nose opens to a distinctive incense character that feels unmistakably old‑school.
A floral funk rises beneath the sweetness, while bitterness steps in to keep everything balanced. The astringency grips the throat before transforming quickly, leaving a moderately drying finish that resets the palate. The qi hits hard with the signature of a Schoolyard Bully — very aggressive, rising fast and strong. This tea is not for the faint of heart, literally. It carries an unmistakable old‑tea taste and the classic traits of traditional Menghai‑area productions.
Crafted from early spring shengtai material by the state‑owned Liming Tea Factory, Schoolyard Bully embraces the factory’s historic Menghai processing style: firm structure, incense aromatics, and a bitterness‑sweetness interplay that rewards experienced drinkers. Stored in Los Angeles since 2017, it has aged fabulous, retaining the punch and personality that defines its heritage.
