Light camphor, strong rose fusion, with rose particularly evident in huigan. Powerful astringency blending with peat minerals in huigan as well. Drying, reaching throat. Stern bitterness quickly shifting to sweet. Sweet cream-vanilla nose, present in early infusions before floral emerges. Atomic compression calling for much longer infusion times and boiling water. Flecking chunks apart ill-advised. Building qi and light viscosity. Floral minerality of very astringent huigan its overriding character. Silver pekoe, likely Hekai, Menghai and Fengqing, Lincang blend from one of the Five Flowers of Menghai TF, Ruan Dian-rong’s Six Famous Tea Mountains factory. Very conservatively stored. Stored in LA since May ’21.
Six Famous Tea Mountains began production in 2002. Like many, founder Ruan Dianrong (1968- ) has Menghai TF connections. However, Ms Ruan’s four-year stint dealt mostly with establishing production standards and marketing. Her role in helping Menghai/Dayi and puerh more broadly develop a consumer base cannot be underestimated, being the first to establish commemorative cakes, puerh tea art, connect Menghai with puerh in the minds of consumers, set up Dayi branches throughout China, promote tea tourism, and to publish on puerh through major Beijing publishing houses.
